Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary
& Deer Land Day Trip
Kuala Gandah elephant conservation centre or the Elephant Sanctuary was established in 1989 and is located in the state of Pahang ( driving time from K.L approx 1 &1/2 hrs ). Activities at the elephant sanctuary do not get underway until approx 1.00pm when there is a movie shown on the relocation of injured or wayward elephants to the national forest.

Approx  ( 3km ) away is a small animal reserve called Deer Land that opens at 11.00 am. Deer land is very children friendly and offers an interactive experience where the whole family can hold, pet, feed & have photo's taken with the various animals. Combining the two attractions gives you a great day out.

The licensed operators we use usually depart the condo between 9.30 and 10.00 am and arrive at Deer Land  between 11.00 & 11.30 am. The time frame here is usually between 1 & 1 & 1/2 hrs Depending on the number of visitors at the time.

Deer land is open 6 days per week. ( Closed on Friday's ) Whilst the elephant sanctuary is open all year round except for the 1st day of Hari Raya, for more info visit the web site. Elephant.

Entry fee at deerland is RM 10.00 per person, food is provided for the feeding of the animals, allow a minimum of 1 hr for

your visit. There are more animals on site ie rabbits, birds, emu's, tarantula's etc etc etc

From deer land you will be taken to the elephant sanctuary ( 3km away ) where you can buy lunch, or you are welcome to borrow our chilli bin / cooler box & take your own.  There is a lovely picnic area on-site + with 7 eleven & a fresh produce market nearby it's easy to top up on drinks, ice & fruit on the way.

Elephant at the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary walking down to the river for rides in the river

Stay on the hwy ( Do Not Turn Off ) Next toll is the Bentong Toll ( Approx RM 3.00 ) Keep on driving on the hwy that reads Temerloh / Kuantan on the sign board. Continue driving towards Kuantan. Next toll is the Karak Toll ( approx RM 3.00 ) After this toll turn left into the Lanchang - Raub - Kuala - Lipis exit. Go straight ahead after paying the toll and turn right at at the T intersection. Be advised that parts of the road winds through villages where villagers, domesticated animals & motorbikes sometimes cross the road unannounced! You will see a sign board on your left to RAUB ( Do Not Turn Left ) Keep on driving straight ahead. The road will become narrower and you will most likeley notice buffalo droppings on the road, a school on your right, village houses, fishing ponds etc etc etc. Continue on straight ahead, as the road comes to a crest ( T intersection ) you will see a sign diagonally across the road ( Deer Land ) turn right here for Deer Land or continue on straight ahead for the Elephant Sanctuary. Along the way there are a few blind spots so be careful. You will come around a bend with an orang asli village on the left, straight ahead is a bridge flanked by two giant elephant tusks and in front of you on your left is the car parking area. Please park here then cross over the bridge and enter the office to register.
Those intending to ride the elephants will be given a yellow sticker, do not place on your clother untill after the feeding of the elephants i have found that most people perspire enough to dampen their clothes which causes the sticker to fall off.
